The New Mutants Releases Intense Opening Scene

The New Mutants has taken a long time to arrive. Once scheduled to release ahead of 2018’s Deadpool 2, the final film in Fox’s X-Men franchise has encountered various delays, leading to moviegoers referring to the film as “cursed”. Fortunately, a new trailer for the film was released earlier this year, and now we have the opening minutes of the film to enjoy as well. You can watch the opening below.

During The New MutantsSan Diego Comic-Con digital panel, the cast and crew showcased the film’s opening minutes. In the opening, we see Danielle Moonstar (Blu Hunt) is shaken awake by her father, who yanks her outside into an apocalyptic, ash-filled scenario that doesn’t end well for him. Dani then finds herself waking up handcuffed to a metal bed inside a mysterious facility, and she’s not the only specially powered teen who’s there. The opening scene was followed by a teaser reel showing scenes from throughout the film.

The New Mutants is originally set to release back in April 2018, but was moved to February 2019.  At the time, Fox was juggling two X-Men projects, Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants. The studio opted to shift the film to August 2019 in effort to space out its comic book properties. After that, the Disney-Fox merger resulted in the film getting postponed to April 2020. Then came the pandemic, which suspended the film’s release until August 28. At the start of the Comic-Con@Home panel, New Mutants poked fun at its own delays, then confirmed the August date, with a little note underneath reading, “Fingers crossed.”

The New Mutants is based on the Marvel Comics team of the same name. The film is directed by Josh Boone from a screenplay by himself and Knate Lee, and stars Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Alice Braga, Blu Hunt, and Henry Zaga.

A few decades ago, before online job applications became the norm, resume objectives were the standard way to begin “snail mail” resumes. However, the internet made it possible for employers to exponentially increase their candidate pool. While this was good for employers, it has intensified the competition between job seekers in many industries.
